What makes Daden unique:

We’re developing innovative solutions using immersive technologies to deliver collaborative solutions for our national and international customers – some of whom we’ve never met in person!

Requests vary from client to client and we’ve been involved in some exciting projects from building visualisations and imagined spaces (e.g. Virtual Library of Birmingham, City Academy Norwich, Hamdan Bin Mohammed eUniversity in Dubai) to creating immersive training scenarios (including Hurricane Shelter emergency management training to customer care training and genetic screening). Our development and research in chatbot technology enables us to integrate and use them in our 3D simulations or deploy them on websites.

We don’t sit still either. Our latest developments and products such as OOPAL (authoring tool for virtual training) and DATASCAPE (immersive visual analytics application) are pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in these spaces.

Once you start thinking about it there’s an amazing array of opportunities for organisations to start using these 3D immersive and chatbot technologies to add value to their business, save money and become ready for the next generation of customers and workers.

The Daden story so far:
Daden Limited was founded in October 2004 and has focussed solely on immersive worlds (and related virtual character) opportunities since 2006. We are now one of the best regarded solution providers and one of the largest companies of our type in the UK, with a good reputation within the broader virtual worlds industry. Daden are members of Intellect, the Trade Association for the UK Technology Industry and also recently became members of BAE System’s Investment in Innovation programme. Daden work has won prizes nationally and internationally from the Times Higher Education Award to the US Government’s Federal Virtual World Challenges (3 awards so far).

We’re currently working on a fantastic data visualisation tool called DATASCAPE that can help organisations make sense of their data (whether structured or unstructured). DATASCAPE provides an easy to use, install and manage immersive 3D environment in which users can visualise and interact with data from almost any source, from financial Excel spreadsheets to live social media feeds. The 3D environment significantly increases the amount of information that can be sensibly displayed, and the sense of immersion provide spatial cues which assist in maintaining orientation and identifying trends, clusters and anomalies with the data.

DATASCAPE is designed to maximise human analysis by optimising the display of data, whether structured or unstructured, enabling the user to take up a wide variety of viewpoints from both inside and outside the data. DATASCAPE is also available in a collaborative edition, which allows users to invite others into their data visualisation, so that analysis and communication can become a shared task. The net result is better understanding, analysis and decision making, and improved recall.

For a sneak preview you can take a look at the video a work experience student did on DATASCAPE whilst at Daden recently forgive her typos!

Daden and Birmingham:
It makes good sense to be based in Central Birmingham. It has good rail, bus, cycle and road networks for both clients and employees and an excellent airport on our doorstep. Plus we have good access to a number of excellent universities for collaboration and for recruiting.

In addition Birmingham, and the Science Park, have a thriving innovation, technical and social media community as well as a forward thinking council.

When and why Daden moved to Birmingham Science Park :
We moved into Birmingham Science Park in 2010. It offered everything we needed in terms of infrastructure and accessibility as well as a range of different office sizes so as the company grew we could move within the building rather than relocate elsewhere.

It also positively encourages innovative technology companies like Daden and the opportunities to network and present at events held there could not be matched at any other venue we considered.

Its all about first impressions too, Birmingham Science Park has good meeting rooms and conference facilities as well as an on-site café (with free wifi). Our clients often comment about the welcome at reception and the impressive light and airy feel of the building as a whole – and that’s before they get into our own offices!

Best business lesson learned:
Listen to you customers.

Best business tip we have to offer:
Be flexible, adaptable, ethical and always listen to your customers.
