SME Town Hall Meet ups: G-Cloud

March 12, 2014 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Chair:

Naureen Khan, Head of Public Sector Programme, techUK

Guest Speakers:

Stephen Allott, Crown Representative for SMEs

Tony Singleton, COO, GDS

The Coalition Government has set an aspiration to award 25% of central government spend, by value to SMEs directly and through the supply chain by 2015. techUK is very supportive of the Government’s SME programme. We are encouraged by government’s willingness to tackle some of the challenges needed to achieve this, particularly procurement reforms which would make it much easier for SMEs to bid for government business. The SME Town Hall meet ups are a key part of our work with the government to help them achieve their goal and in doing so assist our SME members to win more business with Government.

The Town Hall meet ups:

-Provide SMEs with the market insights and information to help them break into or win more business with Government through briefings from senior government officials on the hot topics or issues of the day.
-They provide a platform for Government departments interested in pre-procurement feedback or insights from SMEs through dedicated HMG departmental briefing sessions.
-Help SME members who do not have the business resources to access and network with senior government officials.
-Provide government with a better understanding of the challenges for SMEs selling to government through hearing from them directly in an informal and neutral setting.
-The meet ups also provide SME members with the opportunity to raise and discuss their experiences (both positive and negative) of supplying technology to the public sector directly to government.

This month we’re in Birmingham and the theme is G-Cloud. G-Cloud is a government initiative that aims to ease procurement of commodity ICT services through the use of cloud computing. Central government departments are now mandated to consider public cloud first in any IT procurement and the wider public sector is strongly recommended to take the same approach. The Government Digital Service recently took over the running of the G-Cloud programme. You can hear about their plans and also give feedback on any issues or concerns as well as positive impact of cloud on your business.
