How to Innovate – Workbook (Part 1)
Prof Simon Bolton is Associate Dean and Professor of Design Research at the Birmingham Institute of Art and Design (BIAD). Simon’s professional experience as an International award winning designer working internationally in Europe, North America, South America, India, Africa and Asia at both a strategic and project level. Expertise in strategic design, business innovation, consumer insight research with specialist expertise in:
- Design thinking
- Innovation Management
- Product and Brand Innovation
- Consumer insight .
Marta Perez has been a design researcher/practitioner for the past three years working with corporations such as P&G, Nokia, Reebok and Sky in Spain, UK, China and Poland, building up her strategic creative capabilities for product development and user research. She has two main areas of expertise: idea generation and translation of data into stimulus insights. It has been from this working experience she has built up her skills in design business innovation, workshops and user research based on deep behavioural insight decoding. She is currently undertaking a PhD in Design Driven Innovation at Birmingham City University.
Hugo Russell delivers funded and commercial projects with specialist skills in the areas of innovation, collaboration and application development.
This is a ERDF funded project with the aim of benefitting SMEs based within the West Midlands. Delegates who do not fit this scope may be asked to not attend or pay a surcharge.
The event is part of the Innovation Engine Project, which has been established to identify health and low carbon challenges within larger organisations and build local SME and university consortia to develop and deliver innovative solutions.
The project is extracting tangible opportunities from large organisations that need local businesses with capability to address and create solutions. This workshop is part of a pilot program to start the boost the innovation capabilities aim of this pilot project is to use challenges from large organisations as a novel approach to reducing the risk of innovation within local businesses.
The project is being led by Innovation Birmingham, with the deliver partners consisting of; Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust (HEFT); University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB); Birmingham City University; the University of Birmingham; and Birmingham City Council. The Innovation Engine project was initiated by Birmingham Science City, which brought together the team of delivery partners and will be closely involved in the project governance.
