Following a successful year for Innovation Birmingham’s Tech Wednesday event series, December’s meet-up proved to be the icing on the cake for Innovation Birmingham’s impressive 2015 networking calendar.
Held once a month as an opportunity for the Entrepreneurs for the Future (e4f) community to get together and mingle with other techies from across the region, December’s event had yet another fantastic turn-out with over 80 attendees.
Sponsored by digital accounting service Boox, Campus members and those looking to apply to be on the e4f Incubator enjoyed an evening of beers and networking, followed by an hour of presentations in the state-of-the-art conference room, with more drinks and complimentary pizza to top it all off.
This month’s presentations were delivered by Phillip Venn of Boox and Cliff Dennett, formerly of Soshi Games.
Phillip Venn, Chief Executive of Boox, kicked off the evening with a presentation detailing what Boox does and how it has developed its technology over the years to deliver online accounting solutions to freelancers and small businesses. With time to share his top tips for starting a successful business, Phillip then took to the floor for a quick five minute Q&A session.
Cliff Dennett, Head of Business Development at Innovation Birmingham, then shared a ‘from the heart’ account of his business success and failures, which ultimately led to the demise of his own start-up company, Soshi Games.
Sharing the highs and lows of his journey, with everything from creating gaming apps for rock bands such as Queen and Lawson to crisis management and health risks, Cliff gave a very honest account of the life and death of Soshi Games.
Attendees were able to listen in on the lessons Cliff learnt from the process, before he wrapped up his presentation with some key advice on how others may be able to avoid the same outcome – valuable information for any tech start-up and entrepreneur.
The next Tech Wednesday is at 5.30pm on Wednesday 20th January 2016. For more information on the agenda and to register, please visit: http://www.meetup.com/tech-wednesday/
