Digital tech businesses across the UK are growing 32% faster than the rest of the economy, according a Tech City UK report released today.
The report titled ‘Tech Nation 2016’, produced in collaboration with innovation charity, Nesta and data partner, GrowthIntel, illustrates how in recent years the digital tech economy has continued to go from strength-to-strength and has had a strong impact on employment across the country; now accounting for over 1.56 million jobs.
With jobs in the digital tech economy increasing by 11.2% from 2011 to 2014, the UK market is showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon – and Birmingham is no exception.
The city currently has over 36,768 digital tech jobs – a 15% increase from 2011 to 2014. With enterprise software and cloud computing; digital advertising and marketing and telecommunication and networking sectors continuing to grow; Birmingham continues to reinforce its status as a true ‘knowledge economy’.
As firms in the UK tech sphere continue to outpace those in other sectors by 32%, and with the launch of the eagerly anticipated iCentrum® building just a month away; the building will support this growing economy by providing a beacon for the digital economy – by becoming a meeting place for digital leaders across all sectors to come together and catalyse new innovative thinking.
