Innovation Birmingham Campus duo top global Digital Leaders award list

Innovation Birmingham Campus start-ups, Kaido and Quickcode Labs, have been announced as two of just three West Midlands businesses to top this year’s global Digital Leaders DL100 list.


Digital Leaders is a global initiative for promoting effective, long-term digital transformation across government and industries, with the DL100 list highlighting the leading champions of digital transformation across all sectors. Previously, the list has featured industry names such as; Martha Lane-Fox, Mike Bracken, Liam Maxwell, Kevin Cunnington and Eileen Burbidge.


The Kaido Insights platform uses big data and professional health expertise from the clinical and sports science space to empower individuals and businesses to better understand their health. The aim for the Kaido platform is to encourage a culture of personalised medicine and pro-active patient care through a better understanding of behaviour.


Rich Westman, Founder of Kaido Group Ltd, said: “"I have Followed the work of previous digital leaders in the health and tech categories closely over the first 18 months of Kaido. Learnings from these individuals and groups has enabled me to create a new and innovative business in the health and wellbeing market that will hopefully transform the way people manage their own health using digital technologies.

QuickCode Labs (QCL) is an independent, not for profit, training provider that prepares 16-18 year olds for the work place by teaching them core skills around attitude, aptitude and the application of digital tools in a blended leaning environment. As a pre-apprenticeship offering, QCL works in collaboration with local colleges, businesses and students to provide services including digital transformation, proof of concept, application development and project guidance.


Mick Westman, CEO at QuickCode Labs Ltd, said: “The current generation of youngsters, those under 24, are the most digitally enabled generation of all time. Digital is part of their DNA and as digital leaders we need to find ways of embracing their skills and teaching them how to use them in the digital economy. I’m thrilled that QCL has been recognised in the Digital Leaders 100 list 2017.”


Selected by a judging panel of experts including Lord Francis Maude of Horsham, Chair of Digital Leaders, Kaido will now compete alongside nine other


companies from across the UK for the accolade of ‘Mobile Innovation of the Year’ and Quickcode Labs for ‘Cross Sector Digital Collaboration of the Year’. The public vote is now open and can be accessed at

The final list order and category winners will be announced at the DL100 Awards Dinner at St. Pancras Renaissance London Hotel on 22 June 2017.
