Online food guide Dine Birmingham expands following record quarter

July 28, 2017

Innovation Birmingham Campus-based online food guide Dine Birmingham has experienced a record quarter of expansion with Tom’s Kitchen, Fressh, and the seven venues within the Bitters ‘n’ Twisted group signing up to the popular venue discovery platform.

Dine Birmingham has built a social media and email community of 40,000 dining enthusiasts across the region by helping its users discover the best food and drink experiences. Other well-known restaurant brands that feature on the platform include Hotel du Vin, The Stable and the five venues within the Lasan Group.

To aide expansion, Dine Birmingham has relocated to Barclays’ Eagle Lab, based at the Innovation Birmingham Campus. The company has recently hired Niamh Carpenter as Content and Social Media Editor, along with Josephine Henry and Katie MacDonald as digital marketing interns.

David Wright, Ecosystem Manager for Barclays Eagle Labs Birmingham, said: “There has been a gastronomic revolution in Birmingham over the last few years and we are extremely pleased to see a tech start-up capitalising on the new ‘foodie’ culture that has been developed as a result. Dine Birmingham’s curated approach allows the platform to act as the essential guide to a growing community of ‘foodies’ who are increasingly valuing quality as the most important factor in their dining experience.”

Dine Birmingham’s searchable website features restaurants, bars, events, news and dining offers in the city. The company also hosts live food and drink events, including the annual Birmingham Rum Festival, which was held earlier this month at the Cuban Embassy in Moseley, in partnership with Re’al Ingredients and Wray & Nephew.

Ahmed Ahmed, Founder of Dine Birmingham said: “This is a big year for us, and joining Barclays Eagle Labs has provided the boost to take the brand forward in new and exciting directions. The move - and the business support we’ve received at the Innovation Birmingham Campus - has also given us the confidence to recruit.

“Food and drink is a universal passion and the great reception we’ve had from local businesses and consumers has encouraged us to think about how we can expand at a rapid rate. Due to the sell-out success of the Birmingham Rum Festival, we are already making plans to double it in size next year.”

Tony Elvin, General Manager at Hotel du Vin Birmingham, said: “Dine Birmingham gives us great exposure to the local market via social media, online and email marketing.  However, one of the best things about using the platform is that it can provide detailed evidence on your market reach.”

The Birmingham Barclays Eagle Labs is part of a nationwide programme which sees the bank handpick young businesses with potential. After a pitch and panel interview, successful applicants gain access to office space, mentoring, strategic support and investment opportunities. To apply, visit:
