The Innovation Birmingham Campus will be hosting 12 teams from around the country on Tuesday 19th September for the National Final of ‘ClimateLaunchpad’ 2017, Europe’s largest sustainable business idea competition.
The programme scouts Europe’s cleantech talent and helps them to grow their sustainable ideas into global businesses.
Over the past weeks the teams have been preparing themselves for the National Final with a two-day bootcamp and six intensive coaching sessions. The top three ideas get to battle in the European Final in Cyprus in October. Leigh Ingram, National Lead on the project powered by Climate KIC said:
“This is a great opportunity for us to celebrate the achievements and successes of the innovative ventures on the programme. We strive to support individuals and organisations with their initial environmentally-focused ideas to help them reach commercially successful outcomes.
“The National Final is a great culmination of this activity from around the country, and presents an exciting and competitive environment to reach the European Final in Cyprus.”
Europe’s ten best ideas will get direct access to Climate-KIC’s Accelerator programme, geared at growing big cleantech ideas into strong businesses. The overall winner of the European Final also receives a cash prize of €10,000, the runner up gets €5,000 and the idea that comes in third place wins €2,500.
Ideas will be judged based on the impact on climate change, growth potential and skills and enthusiasm within the team. Frans Nauta, Deputy Director Entrepreneurship Climate-KIC and founder of ClimateLaunchpad said:
“ClimateLaunchpad is a glimpse into Europe’s cleantech future. We see vast opportunities for innovative businesses to combat climate change. This competition trains teams to develop and sell their ideas. We want them to achieve global impact.”
