Campus VR specialist leads South Korea showcase of the UK’s immersive tech industry

April 26, 2018

Innovation Birmingham-based virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) specialist Atmos VR has been flying the flag for the UK’s immersive tech industry in a recent trip to South Korea.

Triggered by the Department of Trade and Industry, Atmos VR was chosen to demonstrate its specialist knowledge across a variety of immersive technologies and represent the UK alongside just 14 other industry experts in a week-long tour at the end of March.

Organised by the Enterprise Europe Network (EEN), the trip uncovered the future of South Korea’s immersive tech market, including visits to Samsung’s central headquarters, and augmented reality innovations including an indoor rollercoaster, badminton simulator and indoor golf simulator. Kevin Blair, Founder and Managing Director at Atmos VR said:

“The showcase in South Korea provided a great opportunity to raise awareness in East Asia on the talented and innovative immersive tech businesses that the UK has to offer.

“Famous for being able to produce equipment and machinery, the trip also enabled us to uncover the gems in South Korea, triggering thoughts on how we can marry its manufacturing expertise with the creativity from the UK.”

Maintaining a focus on content creation, virtual, augmented and mixed realities, the UK’s representative companies were able to compare operations with South Korea’s VR and AR market and the country’s approach to business.

As well as the enterprise-focused elements to the trip, the experienced also offered the opportunity for UK businesses to immerse themselves in aspects of South Korea’s traditional and contemporary cultures, including a journey from Seoul to the Daejeon Province on the world-renowned bullet train, transporting passengers at around 200 miles per hour. Kevin Blair added:

“The overall experience was extremely rewarding and interesting, merging enterprise opportunities through networking with UK and East Asian companies, whilst also learning about South Korean heritage and culture.

“This combination left me with not only a greater understanding of how the country’s market operates, but also allowed me to appreciate its rich history.”

Providing an opportunity to refine pitching techniques and delivery when attempting to acquire investment and new business, the tour integrated a series of business showcases, where each company presented its key offering to a panel of South Korean tech experts.

Atmos VR now plans to continue expanding its industry partnerships and client base, and bids to acquire its first round of investment to begin its next chapter of growth.
